Privacy policy

This says what MagicalGhostWriter keeps about you, why, and who else sees it. We don't sell your data or use it for advertising.

What we keep

• Your account: email address, name, and your password as a one-way hash (we can't read it).
• Your writing: your scripts and books, their earlier versions and change history, notes, and lines you cut.
• Session logs: while the microphone is on, the app records the words it heard (as text, not audio), where you were in the script, and each edit and request, with the AI's answers. These help us fix mistakes in how the app follows you. They're kept with your account.
• Usage: how many minutes you used each month, for your plan.
• Payments: if you buy a plan or hours, a Stripe customer ID and your plan status. Your card details stay with Stripe.

Who else sees it

• Your browser's speech recognition turns your voice into text. In Chrome this is done by Google, in Safari by Apple, under their privacy terms. We never receive your audio.
• OpenAI receives the parts of your script needed to work out an edit or answer a request: the lines around the one you're working on, or for a request, your script and its recent history. We ask OpenAI not to store these requests, and OpenAI doesn't train its models on data sent through its API.
• TypeSafe receives your "go to…" phrase and a short description of each line, to find the place you asked for.
• Stripe processes payments.
• Our host, Hetzner Online (Germany), stores the data above on a server in Finland.

If you joined with an invite and connected your own computer, edits and requests run on your computer with your own Claude account instead, and go to Anthropic under your own agreement with them.

How long we keep it

• Your writing and logs: until you delete them or your account.
• When you close your account, we delete your account, writing and logs within 30 days. Payment records Stripe must keep for tax reasons stay with Stripe.

Your choices

• Ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it, and we'll do it within 30 days.
• Cookies: one sign-in cookie, needed to keep you signed in. No tracking or advertising cookies.
